Is it wise to to give increment in salary to experienced employees or recruit new employees?

I am working as a supervisor under a contractor. All the workers are undergone a labour strike and are asking for a increment in their salary. But my boss do not have static balance to pay them at this instant and also could not prefer delaying the production process. What should i recommend him?

Look, two things cannot be achieved at the same time. Your boss is not interested to delay the production process. This clearly means, he is only concerned to look after his own interest. This is because, his interest id directly involved with production process. He is not interested to look after the labourer's interest who work under him. I think he should consider this , and make arrangements for some increase in salary. If he fails to pay at present, then at least he should promise to make necessary arrangements within a month or so. Otherwise, he will lose these labourers and company's goodwill is surely going to suffer as a result of it.

    Dear Aspirant,

See the cost of living is going high day by day. There is a provision to rise the pay of workers/employees every year.As the regular employees get dearness allowance twice in a year & increment in salary every year, others too should be increased their pay annually.

When the organisation is not able to pay to employees,it is very difficult to convince them & get works done.In this connection, you are required to cut down the unwanted expenses immediately, you should pay the the reasonable amount to the workers & assure them to pay arrear as soon as you get the situation improved.Meanwhile you should arrange the fund either from bank loan or from issuing shares to the public or by any other means to run your organisation smoothly.

    Thanks & good luck.

Hi, It is always advised to strike a balance between promoting people within the company and recruiting fresh blood from outside as this helps the management to keep the morale of the tenured employees high and also brings some new ideas from outside. Please suggest your boss to promote at least a couple of tenured employees (with good performance) with maybe a meagre hike and also ask him to recruit some new faces. This would help in maintaining a balance in the corporate culture and would also cool the heated atmosphere of the company. Thanks.

Well according to the HR its not wise because they are instructed not to increase the salary till the time employee not asks for that, but according to me it will be far better to give the increment and promotion to the employee who are working in the company for very long time.
If you hire a new employee in more salary then there will be no guarantee that what kind of employee he is, so It will be a risk to hire a new employee.
If you give the increment to the old employee then he will be very thank ful to you for that and start working more positively and also never get the thing in his mindto leave the company.
Many of the employee leaves the job due to low salary and and more work.
If they get higher salary anywhere else and also there is working hour same then he will not think for a single minute to leave your company.
He will just give the rsignation and join any other company.
So it will be better for you to keep the experienced employee who know about the organisation very well.
so you should give the increment otherwise once anybody take the decision then it will be too late for you.

    Hi
It is very much wise to give an increment in the salary to the senior employers rather than recruiting new members in the office.
The reason being that maybe at once you will recruit the new members in your office. But then as they are inexperienced, therefore you need to put in your efforts and train them for their work. And once they will come to know the work, they will also ask for the increment, and then you will be followed up with the same problem.
