Will I have to prove myself all over again after coming back from the maternity leave?

I am 7 months pregnant and am on my maternity leave. I work in a software company. Some of my colleagues tell me that as the time period of the maternity leave is very long, so the management deals with such employees as freshers when they come back after their maternity leave. It doesnít give any importance to their previous accomplishments and they have to prove themselves again. Does this happen in all the companies? How to deal with it?

    Hi friend

I think what your friends are telling you maybe true to some extent but surely you should not give much thought to it. Especially at this time, when you are 7 months pregnant, you should definitely not take any extra stress thinking about such baseless things. You should take proper rest as advised by your doctor and eat healthy. You should take care of your as well as your baby's health. You can think about such things later on when you have delivered and recovered fully after that. These things don't hold any importance right now.

I am sure your company will surely give you credit for your previous accomplishments after you return from your maternity leave. they will definitely not turn a blind eye to it. As for what will happen after you return from your maternity leave, you should not worry about it all. You should just keep working hard and with full dedication as you used to do earlier and thus i am sure you will definitely get what you deserve.

I am sure your company is not going to treat you as a fresher and they will definitely deal with you as they deal with other experienced employees. You should just maintain the standard of your performance and I am sure you will have no problem after you return back to your company. You certainly don't have to prove yourself again as you have already done so and I am sure your work and dedication are going to speak for you.

So friend, I hope you take care of yourself and don't pay heed to such useless advices given by your friends. They may definitely not be completely wrong in what they have told you, but it is not of much importance to you at this present time. Just do what you excel at and I am sure you will definitely keep on winning the confidence of your boss and manager and thus growing from strength to strength.

Hoping for your safe delivery. Congrats. Good luck

Dear Madam certainly it doesn't happen in many good companies and it certainly should not happen. According to the maternity benefit act of 1961 in sec 12 it is clearly stated that no employer can dismiss or discharge an employee who is in leave to avail the maternity benefits and hence, you cannot be terminated during this period, which also means that you are in continuous employment without any break and as soon as you re-join the company you will continue from where you left. so it would wrong on the part of the employer to do so. Also try to get in contact with your HR person and discuss about the matter. talk to him about the provisions in the maternity benefit act... hope you'll have a healthy baby... good luck
