I am home science student pursuing my second year. I have keen interest in making international foods. Will my home science degree be worthy if I opt for going to be a chef in some big hotels or restaurants? If yes then how shall I move further for the same?

I am extremely sorry to say that in modern world it is not possible to be employed as chef after pursuing course in home science especially if you are talking of big hotels and restaurants.But you can get into small firms if you are good at cookery.Inorder to be employed in big hotels and restaurants as chef,
You need to pursue hotel management course atleast.You need to be a master of the kitchen sector in it and not the hospitality sector.You have to do the course from IHM(government institutes especially IHM,Delhi) to get good exposure and employment in big hotels like that of TAJ,Oberoi,ITC groups.You can also get employment in big hotels as chefs if you win any cookery shows at national level or may be very popular cookery show at state level.Masterchef India is a big platform for this.

Now a days every stream of work ask for specialised people.In the same way,in order to be a chief you need to have a specialised degree in Hotel Management.Such courses teach all the detailings of the art of cooking different cuisines.You may have good idea in cooking,but that extra detailing you wont be having because you have not gone for such course which they will be asking for.You are just in the 2nd year.If you are really interested you can leave home science and go for hotel management course.This will widen your scope to be a good chef.
No your this degree will not be suitable for the job as a chef in the hotel industry. If you want to make career in the hotel industry then you have to do the hotel management course which is a three year regular program. You should do your this program from any reputed institute so that you can get the job easily.
