Re: What should I do M.Sc or specialized studies in Biotechnology?

    Hi..
First of all I would like to congratulate you for choosing a career in Biotechnology. Biotechnology is a thing of the future. You will be surprised to know that in countries like US and Germany people prefer biotechnology over any of the other fields. The potential that this field has in the years to come cannot be thought of. After completing your B.Sc you should go in for M.Sc but the thing that matters is a General M.Sc or a specialization. I have a suggestion to make. If you have decided a specific area in your mind then you should definitely go in for that. On the other hand if you have still not been able to decide your field of interest then you can choose a general M.Sc. For your specialization you can consider the following options:
    1. Plant tissue culture.
    2. Bioinformatics.
    3. Stem cell and tissue engineering.
    4. Nanobiotechnology.
    5. Cell and Molecular Biology.

In my opinion Plant tissue culture is an excellent field to choose for the future. Preserving endangered species of plants in Himalayas is one such thing that comes under the domain of PTC. BT Brinjal, BT Cotton, BT rice are all gifts of PTC. Increasing the viability of seeds also comes under the domain of PTC. Farmers today sare interested in increasing their productivity and plant tissue culture is definitely a solution to all this. Growing new plants from a root, shoot or even a leaf is what PTC can do. These are like marvels to the lay man and in the world of PTC these are a part and parcel of the work. Synthetic seeds can also be produced from PTC and these seeds can be stored for a long term.

I am sure that if you develop a keen interest in this field you are sure to reach the zenith. Another advice can be to enrol for a training for 2 month or 6 months in PTC before you pursue your M.Sc. This will give you a fair knowledge about the field. Institutes like Jaypee institute of Information technology Waknaghat, Solan and IHBT, Palampur can be good options to explore!
I too am a biotechnology student. So giving you this valuable advice.
    All the best. Thank you
