Re: What are the role, duty and responsibility of speaker in Indian Parliament?

The Parliament of India has two houses namely Lok sabha and Rajya sabha and both have its own speaker so the speaker of which house did you meant because there isn't one particular speaker for the parliament. In the Lok sabha the speaker maintains discipline and decorum in the house, the speaker decides whether a bill is a money bill or a non money bill, the speaker decides on the agenda to be taken up for discussion and the speaker permits the moving of various kinds of motions in the house. Actually Rajya sabha does not have a speaker but only a chairman who acts as the speaker and the chairman is the vice president of India, he does not enjoy individual powers and functions but only as a whole with the house. In joint sessions of both the houses of the Parliament of India the speaker of Lok sabha presides over the meeting and in his absence the deputy speaker takes his place. Though the speaker of Lok sabha is conferred with individual powers and functions but still he cannot be considered as the common speaker of the Parliament.
