    What do we mean by overtime? Are we getting paid extra for overtime?

    I am working in this BPO organization from past 2 years. This year we have got lots of orders. So our management has decided to take overtime and complete this work. They have told us to stay back after office hours for 2 hours daily for a month and complete this work. What is this overtime and do we get extra payment for this overtime?

    It is amount of time someone works beyond normal working hours.

    Normal working hours is the amount of time you daily have to work in office.

    Payment for overtime depends on company to company.

    Normally employee gets extra money if he works overtime for such a long period ,rests depends upon your companies policy.

    Yes friend-those employee who work under time bound method say on an average an employee is to give service for 8 hours.now if your company bpo get's extra order and like to cpmplete the work without extra recruitment.employer like's to do the work by his existing employees.

    Then employer has the privilege to allot over time to each employee for extra work paying extra wages as per company rule.then employees' are bound to work they can not deny as per company rule.

    Overtime means that extra time work. most of the candidate done the Overtime,
    yes, we get a extra amount for overtime. Sometimes it is very helpful for you , in company your personality will
    be very good. but some times it is very harmful for your health.
    As per my perception you should not do the overtime, its totally effect your health.
    if your Health is not good, then what is benefit of this.

    Hello,

    Generally management ask you to stay back at office after office hour if there is any workload or if you have to meet a deadline.
    They ask you to give extra time after usual office hours.
    This procedure is known as overtime. They may ask you to come to office on holidays .
    Yes if you are working overtime then you will be also paid for it .

    Overtime means a situation where you are supposed to work more than your working hours.

    If the company demands you have to work for extra time at situations. But you are supposed to be paid extra for working extra hours.

    It is a very common practice in almost every office. And you must ask for your extra renumeration.

    Yes you are right, over time means extra time from normal working time. If you do work overtime you will be paid for extra time by company. But you should clear regarding this to discus with company's HR or your boss.

    In simple terms overtime means the hours working more than normal working hours. Generally in every company the normal working hours comes to be 8 hours a day. However it may differs as it's decision of companies official. You can check out the terms and conditions of your appointment to know your normal working hours. Company asks their employee to work overtime if the last date to complete the task is nearer or burden of work increased. It's a general practice in every pay extra if the employees are working for extra time period. Decision to pay or not is solely taken by the management of the company. You need to contact the HR manager of your company and ask him the criteria for payment of overtime. If they denied to pay you all for the overtime then every employee together must demand the same to the management.

    Hi,

    In simple words, overtime means the amount of time in which someone do work beyond the usual official timings. For ex. If office timings are from 9 to 6 pm and one works till 9 or 10 pm then the time he/she spends after 6 in the office for extra work called overtime. Mostly each and every company has the concept of paying extra for overtime work. The amount for the same varies from company to company.

    If employee works extra for only 1 to 2 hour then he/she do not get paid, mostly company pays when employee works extra at least for 4 hrs after the normal working hours. If your management has decided to do overtime daily for 2 hrs then you can ask them confidently that what we will get for that. If they said that you will get extra money for those 2 hrs daily then it would be good, but if in case they denied to pay then tell them that for sometime we can do extra work without getting any compensation but daily for continuous 2 months, we can not do without getting extra money.
    You can also ask to you HR for getting the information on the same in detail.

    you would not get any extra money for working in a bpo for extra time.

    Its as per company you need to work for more time.

    dear friend,
    generally any company makes their workers to work for 8hours any thing beyond 8hours is said to be overtime.there is a definite hike of salary if you are working more than normal working hours.the extra payment differs from one company to other comapny.generally this overtime work is made to be done by compnies when der is urgence of the project to be completed.

    See,employees are made to work overtime if the targets of the company have not been met and they are running out of time to complete the targets.
    So there's nothing new in this concept.
    Many companies do this.

    Generally companies pay the employees for the overtime work.
    The criteria for that vary form company to company.

    Over time is the time worked by an employee more than the usual working hours. There is no law that the an employee cannot work more than the usual working hours. When you work over time then your employer has a legal obligation for paying the salary for the worked period.

    The salary in the over time should be double with regard to the normal.

    But with out payment you have no legal obligation to do the work.

    As per the shops and commercial establishment act an employee cannot be made to work for more than 50 hours in a week including the over times. SO no need not work more than 50 hours in a week even if your company states so.
