What is the difference between worker and workmen?

I am BBA student and we have Business law and also management studies. In management studies most of the time I have come across of this word worker and in law workmen. The contest will be the same, but the word will be different. Is there any differences between worker and workmen or both of them are same?

There is no such big difference. As a general white colour are called employee and blue collar are called workman. But if you talk about legal concept, there are different definition of workman/worker and employee under the various Labour Acts; like ID Act , ESI Act, Payment of Bonus Act, PF Act, Payment of Gratuity Act, Payment of Wages Act and Payment of minimum wages act etc...

    Dear Aspirant

    Difference Between "worker" and "workmen":-

The word worker is used as ordinary meaning and does not specify any particular act.

But They both relative to each other "worker" may be a "workman" and "workman" may be "worker" Meaning of "worker" is defined under the Factories work and includes virtually everyone who enters the factory premises.

"Workman" is defined under the Industrial Disputes work and specific import for labor legislation.A captain or other member of the crew of an aircraft,A particular person recruited as driver, helper, mechanic, cleaner or in any other.

But If you saw in work order they both are same work.

    Dear Friend

These terms in general have the same meaning but according to the Laws they are different..

They are defined differently by the specific laws... that is called there "Definition".

Under the Factories Act, "worker" is defined and includes virtually everyone who enters the factory premises. where as

"Workman" is defined under the Industrial Disputes Act and specific import for labour legislation.

SO I think it clears your dobt between WORKER and WORKMEN..
