What is the difference between Roles and responsibilities and job description?

I have completed my B.Com and joined this Automobiles manufacturing company as admin executive. This is my first job and they have given me the offer letter. In that letter I can see both the job description and roles and responsibilities of my position. Both seem to be almost same. My manager has informed me that my performance will be measured on the basis of how I take my roles and responsibilities. Can anybody tell me difference between roles and responsibilities and job description?

Re: What is the difference between Roles and responsibilities and job description?

Yes roles and responsibilities are somewhat similar but if we dig in deeper they seem to be slightly different. Roles mean the act you perform while doing your job, it simply means your qualities, skills and potentiality for doing the job. So your performance is measured by the roles played by you while doing your job. Responsibility on the other hand means your respect and understanding for the company norms. A responsible employee has a feeling of oneness with the company which makes him or her committed to the work and the company. You already might have fulfilled the required eligibility criteria but once selected your educational qualification is not the priority but your future depends upon how you conduct your roles as an employee and how responsible your are towards your job and company.
