What is the difference between resume and bio data?

When I was studying in my college there was a session included on resume. In that session they had explained about resume which include height, weight, complexion etc... and was said it is a standard resume format. After finishing my college, when i attended my first interview with this resume, my interviewer asked me whether this is your resume or Bio data. He exclaimed like this “Have you come for interview or for marriage proposal. This is just like your Bio data”. Could you please help me in writing standard resume?

Re: What is the difference between resume and bio data?

    Hello,
First of all i want to tell you about bio data.Basically a bio data consists of biological information like name, age etc along with your data like where you born, your full back ground, name, blood group etc which is not required in resume.
A standard resume include the following:
    1)Your contact information:
It consists of your full name, contact number and your email ID.
    2)Your job objective:
It consists of your specific job in which you are interested. It should be written properly and straight forward so that it will be easily understand.
    3)Educational background:
This consists of your 10th,12th marks and marks of your degree along with your school and college name and year of passing.
    4)Skills:
If you have did any extra courses you can write here. Also you can write what project you have done in college.
    5)Achievements and extra curricular:
What you have did other than study like participated in sports, events etc.You can also write your interest area like football, cricket etc(If you have).
    6)Personal profile:
This consists of information like nationality, date of birth, father's name' mother's name.address, language known.
    7)Declaration:
You have to write that the above all the information are correct to the best of my knowledge and brief.
In the last your signature with date.
I think it will help you...
    Thank u...

    Hi ,

Bio data carries much less information about career goals and has nothing to do with job realted aspects. It includes things like Name,Ethnicity,Age etc.

Resume includes educational qualification , work summary (if any). The mentioned information + Biodata, makes a resume.

    Thanks !!!

Re: What is the difference between resume and bio data?

Biodata is a commonly used psychology term for biographical data. Biodata surveys are in the form of multiple choice questions. In India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, a biodata is essentially a resume plus physical attributes, such has height, weight, hair/skin/eye color, and a photo.
An application form is a form created by the employer to collect information from job applicants. It may include much of the same information as a resume, but it is organized for the convenience of the employer.
A resume includes a work and salary history, educational history and job objective.
A curriculum vitae is a list of one's professional and educational history and tends to focus on one area of expertise. It's commonly used by authors, researchers, speakers, professors and other experts in a particular field.

Re: What is the difference between resume and bio data?

    Hello,

There is a basic difference between Resume and Bio-data. A Resume is for a person
having a work experience in a specific sector. His/her work experience should be
mentioned in the resume along with personal informations such as nmae, DOB, address,
contact no along with specialized technical skills, computer knowledge and expected salary.

Bio-data is a basic information regarding candidate's name, age, address, phone number, academic
qualification, computer knowledge, project work done, hobby etc.

    Bye,

Re: What is the difference between resume and bio data?

See as you have explained here seems that you have given your biodata instead of resume which mainly includes physical characteristics in some

context and and at some places.

Actually there meaning can change according to the situation and context.

First of all for applying for any job you don't have to right such things as these are not at all seen and moreover interviewer can find it by seeing you.

In a standard resume the important things that must be included is:

    Your name.

    Your fathers name/mothers name

Your contact address and phone number.

    Than comes your career objective.

Your education qualifications till now clearly mentioned in table format from 10th,12th and your college aggregates(grad/postgrad)

Your experience /if fresher than any sort of training in your college related to your application for the job.

Other skills like computer knowledge / language etc.

    Any awards and honors.

If you like can include your hobbies though not necessary.

Any references: if yes than there name and contact details.

Don't write any unnecessary things that have no relation with your job you are applying for.

As these puts unnecessary negative impression.

Choose proper font and size it should not look too fancy, like for eg. you can use times new roman font,

Also write in form of points rather separating each and every part with proper indention and proper heading.

    Overall be specific and simple

Re: What is the difference between resume and bio data?

Hi resume is a docx file that highlights your educational qualifications and your academic excellence your areas of interest highlights your achievements areas where you stand strong whereas bio data will consist of non formal information like about yourself including as said above like height weight etc which doesn't highlight your academic excellence and your profession.Your standard resume should consist of a strong resume headline which attracts or catches attention of your recruiters and then is a clear career objective and then your educational background in the descending order. Then you could give your experience details if any which highlights the area where you are working and if you are a fresher go about giving your skill set achievements projects summary done in UG and PG level and last comes your personal brief information.
