What demerits should I search for eliminating a candidate?

I am newly recruited HR in Infosys. And for this years candidate selection I am appointed as the interviewer. My boss suggested me to always try to eliminate students instead of selecting them. What does that mean and how to know which candidate needs to be eliminated?

Firstly you should directly ask him what are his requirement and what are your responsibilities as the designation which is given to its obvious that you obey your boss so you should abide by the rules which he puts on you..i think your are personal officer more or less i mean your boss has given you the post of vigilance officer who always finds faults and indiscipline at work. So you can eliminate a employee based on these factors:
1.fails to do his work at a particular time period.
2.you can terminate an employee if you find him not worthy of his work that has been given to him.
3.performance appraisal is most important one this is the best way you can find reason to eliminate an employee.
4.indiscipline at work and not will to obey team leaders.
5.people who play office politics and never follows certain protocol at work and always tries to destabilize the other employees at work should be removed.
Now these are the factors the make foundation and basis to you to eliminate the employee other than this you have no right to remove an employee you cannot sack an employee just for fun and for time pass its important to you and your boss mind it never play with emotions and careers of innocent and deserving good people..

    Dear Aspirant,

Congratulations for being recruited as HR in Infosys. You must make a points as to select a good candidates for your company. In order to make such points, you should take the following points in mind:-

1.Marks obtained in examination, semester wise:- You can have it as high as possible in order to select a good candidate. You can keep it average 70%

2.The candidates having the above % of marks need to appear for the written exam to be conducted by your company. You can refer the previous models for the above purpose. You should make a cut off to qualify in the written exam. You can keep it 50% marks for eligibility.

3.The candidates qualified in the written exam need to appear for group discussion to be held by you.

4.The candidates passed in the group discussion need to appear for the personal interview as to students'family back ground, communication skills etc.

Depending upon the above factors, you can select very few candidates & eliminate the maximum candidates.

    Thanks & good luck.

    Hello,

Infosys is a top IT company. It is very hard to get a call from the Infosys. As a HR it's very tough to
select all the candidates and elimination is the perfect way to select the brightest one among many.
You should look for the following factors before eliminating a candidate,

    1. Lack of academic qualities
    .
    2. Poor interpersonal skills.
    3. Unsufficient computer knowledge.
    4. Poor Domain knowledge.
    5. Lack of professionalism.

    Bye,

    Hi
For the elimination process you need to point out the negative factors of the candidates who are coming for the interview purpose.
And for this reason you need to first of all ask them what are your strengths and what are your weaknesses.
And when they tell you about their weaknesses, you should target them with that only and try to break them down.
And finally, when you realize that people who are not able to handle the mental pressure, you should eliminate them and the people who are able to withstand with the pressure you put on them, then you should select that candidate

See it depends on the need of the company that is the employee the company needs at a particular position. So to make things simple for you, you can make a list of qualities you are looking in a potential employee for a particular job. For making it more clear you can also rate each and every quality like poor, good, very good etc.

After evaluating each and every potential employee you can make out easily the candidate/s you find best suited for the respected job. Like suppose for choosing a programmer you can list qualities like programming skills, communication skills, education qualifications, training, experience etc.

    Dear Friend,

I am sorry but your boss has not suggested you the correct thing.

As an Interviewer your aim should be to select candidates rather than eliminate them.

At first, you should clearly understand your requirement.

You should know, what all kind of work you want from those candidates and whether they will be able to do those work or not ?

It will be better to list out all your required qualities according to their priorities and then search for those qualities in candidates. If any candidate is meeting the your requirements then select them else do not select.

So, you don't need to search for demerits but merits in them.

    All the best.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
your boss's suggestion implies that if you concentrate on elimination ,obviously the remaining are suitable persons for that job.elimination process should be done depending on the responsibilities of that particular job and the remaining are the best suits for that job.
    all the best.

    First of all congratulations!

Well this work is really tough as every company has different perspective and reasons to select and reject students.
few companies like to recruit impressive personality smart students where as a few companies try recruit intelligent students only irrespective of their looks and even language at time.
hmm well i am trying enlist a few point you can ponder in while interviewing the student and reject him/her on its basics:

    • poor subject knowledge
    • poor computer knowledge
    • not highly good fluent English
    • not in proper formals
    • formal color been very bright or very dull
    • not convincing
    • not good academics
    • not decent
    • not spontaneous
    • short temper
    • extra even ultra sweet and polite
    • having a back logs
    • not smart
    • not tall
I guess theses points would help you eliminating a crown !

For elimination of students the following points may be taken into consideration

1.The candidate is careless and doesn't pay much attention to the details required and submitted with many spelling and grammar mistakes.

2.if the candidate changes his job very often that means if he changed jobs more than once per year for which you should just eliminate their names out of the consideration list.

3.You also go through his previous job works and his achievements. If he has no such achievements this type of candidate may not be considered.

4.Requirements are listed in order of importance. If you require a Bachelor degree at the beginning of the list, you will only need to pay attention to such candidates and others may be ignored who are having even higher qualification.

Hope these are helpful to you. Regards

Any freshman worth his salt racks up 100 demerits in say, a month.A demerit can be given for improperly rolling up your socks, putting an elbow on the table, smiling, glancing at an upperclassman. So what is your point? Surely you can do better than this!Don't forget to vote on Nov 5th!

Re: What demerits should I search for eliminating a candidate?

Respected your boss has suggested you a very good way to hire new employees because this way is absolutely works at every stage that is why you do not need to worry and just try to do it and follow your boss

Elimination means to reject applications of some candidates who do not deserve better for that particular post and to eliminate someone you need to find out some demerits of the candidates then you will be able to do it

You will be the interviewer so you will get 100s of applications for the job and it is your duty that you hire some of the new and fresh young employees and follow these mentioned conditions while eliminating

First of all you should sort out all applications according to the age because this criteria is very important means first you select those candidates who are below 25 years of age and then keep a list of those candidates who have crossed 25 years of age and then you have to select from these candidates

Make a list of educational qualification of all candidates basically everything will be mentioned in resume/CV of the candidate and then prefer higher qualification holder candidates means if the minimum requirement of the post is graduation and if someone is under 25 years of age and have completed master's degree or any other professional qualification then he/she will be preferred first for job

Experience - This is also a major part of the recruitment process because if someone has experience of working somewhere on same or relevant position then you have to prefer that candidate but you just have to see the duration of experience and performance certificate provided by the previous company and if you found satisfactory then ask some questions on related work then get proper reply and shortlist that candidate

Communication Skills : So many freshers applies for job they do not have good communication skills so you may eliminate them without any prior information because you will get applications of experience holders so most of the freshers will be eliminated by you easily

Knowledge about the particular position and subject : You have to ask questions about your company and job designation and what are the duties of a person who will work on that position and you will see that many of the candidates will get failed at this stage so you can eliminate more and experienced will answer you right so you can shortlist them for job

General Ability and Aptitude of the candidate : Ask some critical questions and know the strength of the candidate to finding the answer and decide the time that how many of the candidates gives the answer and you can eliminate them who will not answer and keep their name out of the shortlisted candidates

Business and Corporate Knowledge with Interest of working : You should try to know that how many candidates are interested in getting this job and perform well because some of them will be for trial so you should identify them by knowing their interest in business sector and also try to take their feedback about private and government jobs so you will see the interested candidates so this may be a good way to eliminate because if the candidate is not interested in working in private sector then how will he work

Behavior, Attitude, Other skills and abilities : You have to find out everything in the candidate for the job otherwise elimination is the only way and that way may be anything as how he/she talks, behave while talking, outfits, thoughts etc. so all these ways may help you please follow

    All the best
