    What action can be taken against the employee who takes many sick leaves in a month?

    I work in as a HR in IBM call center. We have this employee who takes lots of sick leave. He has just joined 7 months back and every month takes 2-3 days leave in a month. What action can be taken against him for taking so much frequent sick leaves?

    First you have to ascertain whether that employee is taking sick leave purposefully or not. If he is not taking the leave purposefully you cannot terminate him for the reason that he is taking leave for 2-3 days in a month. While giving him sick leave you should ask him for the certificate from his doctor. IF he is taking leave purposefully you have to issue a warning memo asking him to explain the reason for the same. And after that give him a warning letter that if he does the same thing with out any reason he will be terminated. Then also he is taking leave you can give him a termination notice asking him to explain why he should not be terminated. If the reason is not satisfactory you can germinate him.

    Hi friend,

    Hope you are enjoying working as HR in IBM!

    You can give a warning to that person that if continues with this kind of behavior,then he might be fired from the job.

    If he learns from his mistake,then it's well and good.
    But if still keeps taking extra SL,then you should fire him and look for an employee that is more responsible and efficient!

    An Effective, Responsible and Efficient Employee will help your Orgainsation grow!

    Dear Friend

    Without knowing the root cause of the problem you can not directly take the decision of terminating the employee taking 2-3 days sick leaves every month..

    You should esquire that his leaves are legitimate or not..It they are legitimate then you should understand his condition and allow him leaves and ask him for the Medical certificate form the next time.

    And if he is making misuse of this then first give warning to him that he do this again without any reason then he will be terminated..

    Dear..

    If your employee taking too many leave is your problem then first of all you should observe him that whether that person is really sick or he is just taking casual leave just in the name of sick leave to save money.

    If you find that person is taking leave because he is not good then you tell him to consult a good doctor and also tell him that in today's environment you should not take that much leave as it will be harmful both for the organization and for himself and tell him also that you are not gonna give more leaves because, the performance is whole company is going down of the whole company because of you.

    And if that person is taking casual leave in name of sick leave then its better to warn him once and after that FIRE him immediately. It will be beneficial for both you and your organization.

    I recommend you to please check that whether he/she is taking the genuine leaves or not by checking the formality information to be provided while taking leaves. If all the formalities are perfectly completed, then please set a 3rd party verification for this by checking whether all the required reports like medical is original or fake one. If it is original one than the employee is taking genuine leave, else you can mail higher authority in the company regarding this issue and they will handle it more perfectly by warning the employee or by terminating him/her.

    Dear Aspirant,

    First of all you have to see that "how manys of sick leaves are you sanctioning to an employee in a year?"To my mind it may be from 6 to 10 days.so you have to see that if the concerned wants to sick leave within the range of his eligibility,he will be sanctioned the sick leave with the pay otherwise he will be on loss of pay.

    If the concerned employee needs in real to avail frequent sick leave,he may be allowed & be sanctioned as said above.Of course it is a problem to the management because it hampers the work.In this case you can advise him to take proper treatment & rest as per the advise of good doctor.Even after if he continues to take the sick leave as said above,you can either terminate on the basis of poor health or you can allow to go as it is going.

    Hi,

    I think you have to do one to one discussion with him regarding the same. Ask him the reason that why he takes 2-3 leaves each month.If he is really unfit and having some medical problem then you can ask him to get all the medical reports and certificate and ask him to submit the same to HR.

    But if he was not ill and took the leaves and not telling the reason then you can warn him on the same. If he will repeat the same thing without any intimation then you can forward this case to HR Management to take some action against him or release him from the project.

    Hi.. First of all you should do a check on this employee of yours whether he is taking sick leaves due to genuine reasons or he is making false claims of being sick.. You can get this done through a private detective..

    Then if you find that he is just faking sickness to take leave unnecessarily and if the no. of leaves he is taking exceeds the company limits then he should certainly be punished and not left free..

    According to your company's policies you can make him pay some fine or dont promote him or withdraw some of his bonuses.. Firstly you call him to your office and persuade him to admit his fault and then take action..

    But if his reason for taking leaves is genuine then you dont need to take any action and tell him to take care of his health and dont take so much leaves..

    Hi friend,

    First you have to check whether the employee is really sick or not.

    Do ask the doctor from where he submits you the prescription.

    Contact the doctor and also talk to the employee.

    Give him the warning and warm him that if he does it frequently then he would loose his job.

    Ask him to leave if he really doesn't feel good working here.

    Check the condition in which he is in.

    Do talk to him as the problem would be solved there itself.

    If he does even after doing this then you can make him quit the company.

    Before going to take any action ,you must check out how many sick leaves are allowed for any employee in any year or month as per the companies policy. If the employee is taking leave under the prescribed leave limit, they you can don't do anything against him. In case of taking leave above the prescribed limit, you should deduct the salary accordingly. Now you should find out the reason behind taking the sick leaves. If the reason is genuine and he is also attaching the medical proof of it, then there must be no problem. But if he is taking wrong use of the sick leaves then you should send him a warning letter stating the mistakes he committed and also stating not to repeat the same mistake. If He does the same then the termination would be the final action.

If he's not taking the leave purposefully you can not terminate him for the explanation that he's taking leave for 2-3 days during a month. whereas giving him leave of absence you must raise him for the certificate from his doctor.
