Steps against employee for not giving attendance and later arguing that he was present?

I am the manager of a private firm. We have biometrics system for recording the attendance of the employees everyday. Employees have to give their fingerprint everyday in it. Recently a notice came of the absentee employees with the dates of previous month. One of the employees is telling that he was present on that day and is indulging in argument with me. What steps can be taken against this?

    Hello..

What is this, if he was present he should have given the fingerprint. There is nothing to think in it you are the manger and have the authority to take a legal action.
First call him and tell him that he is doing wrong and you can fire him if he will continue the argument . Listen to him , that what he is trying to explain and if you are satisfied then you can do whatever you want and if you think that he is just making lame excuses you can take a legal action.

    Thanks.
