Redundancy period has become a burden because the employee is not showing interest in work

A recent reshuffle in our company necessitated that some of the employees be made redundant and the notice has been served to them. From our part as a manager it has become a headache for me as the employee is not showing interest in the work and infact he has become downright insolent. What should I do? Can we just ask him to not to come to office?

    Hi friend

Any employee who knows that he is now going to lose his job will surely lose interest in his work unless he is leaving the job by choice. So ofcourse you cant blame those employees in totality as they also have feelings and anyone who is losing the job in this way will have hard feelings against the company. So ofcourse they would try to disrespect you too. As their positions are no longer required so it will certainly be better if you ask them not to come back to work from the next day onwards.

Now if they really want the salary for the duration of notice period if they havent found any other job yet, then maybe they themselves will plea you to keep them for the time being and then will surely put some effort and heart in their work. But if they have found another job, then they will do as you say and not come from the next day onwards.

So in this way your headache will also be over and the employees who want to stay by choice will stay and the others will leave. So you should consult the other high officials and take this decision soon. Dont take unnecessary stress and tension as its not good for your health. Good luck friend
