One of my teammates has lost his file and now he is blaming me for it as I borrowed it a few days ago

I am working in a private firm. Recently one of my teammates lost his file and now he is blaming me as I had borrowed it from him a few days ago. But I am quite sure that I have returned him the file after doing my work. So he is falsely accusing me now to save his skin. What to do in such a situation?

Hi, If you are sure that the file has not been misplaced by you then please be confident and tell the team mate firmly that you are not responsible for the loss of file. If required, please explain this clearly to your reporting manager and ask your friend not to play the blame game, rather he should try finding the lost file. Do not worry and be confident because you are speaking the truth. Thanks.

    Dear Aspirant,

There are certain procedures for movement of the files in the organisation. It is not a personal asset of any employee to get borrow from any employee & in case of missing one can be blamed. If such thing is happening in your firm,it means there is no any proper system for movement of any file in your firm.

In such case you are not responsible & the responsibility goes to the custodian of the file. You can say the same thing to your boss to save your skin.

In fact, there are a table register to maintain the income & out going file to a particular employee. The entry is made for each & every file while receiving from another table & while handing it to the next table. If such thing is maintained, there won't be the problem as stated above.

So request your management to implement the above procedure to avoid such problem in future.

    Thanks & good luck.

If you have already returned him that file then you should not worry for these things because he is just blaming you to get rid of the situation.
You also should not accept that you have taken the file few days ago because he is saying that you have not given the file then you should say that you have not taken the file and there is no chance of giving the file that you have never taken.
If there are CCTV cameras then they will see the recordings that he has given you the file or not if they find that you have taken the file from them then after that you can also show the video that show that you have returned the file.
If there is no CCTV cameras then never accept the you have taken the file. The matter will be closed then and there.

Never take people for granted even though how good a person is circumstances some times makes worse for you.. When you have borrowed it from then its very important that you return it back after your reference.. When your honestly telling that you have given it to him confidently then don't worry in case if your not confident just check it out with your personnel files you may also replace it.. But if your confident and honest never take the blame upon you fight for your right because don't take blame on you if you haven't done any mistake.. You should save yourself in this case with your defense moreover responsibility was given to him its illegal to transfer a file to others with out prior information to your boss an employee cannot do it,, he will be blamed for it.. But when you find file anywhere be the first person to hand it over to your boss work is important.. I am sure if your true his conscience will reject his lies which he is telling about you..
