One of my colleagues is not entirely focussed and thus gets so much scolding from the boss

I am working in a government organisation. One of my colleagues, who is also a good friend, is never completely focussed on his work and as a result gets so much scolding from the boss. I have told him many times to try and focus more but he never listens. I am afraid that this might hurt him in the long run. What can I do to help him out?

    Dear Aspirant,

Really you seem a good friend of your colleague because you are worrying so much for him.Your duty is to awake him about the consequent result of being careless in duty.He may be suspended,he may not get promotion etc.You can also ask him to get help from you in need.In spite of these things,if he does not listen to you,you should not worry for him.He will wake up after some action. He does not want to apply prevention is better then cure.

if you go on interfering too much, you may be disliked by him.So concentrate on your own work & let your friend does his own work.Interact with each other & help on request or demand.

    Thanks & good luck.

    Hi Dear,

Your helpful nature deserves to be applauded. It's good that instead of criticising your friend and nose-diving him, you are looking forward to help him to change his attitude and nature so that he could avoid being scolded by the boss.

My friend, all you can do is try to know his weaknesses and convince him to work on those weaknesses so that he could improve his performance. Let him realise that this is not the time to lose heart and hopes but to strive hard to prove his worth. Also make him feel that you are always with him as a friend and a guide and would always help him to move ahead in life.

In addition, if you share a good rapport with your boss, then request your boss to give him one more opportunity to prove himself and also request the boss to help your friend with all resources that he could to improve his performance. In case you would not like to discuss this with your boss, it's perfectly all right and you alone can bring the change in your friend's personality and performance with the help of your constant guidance and encouragement.

Nothing is impossible in this world if you have the will and strength to do it.

    Thanks.

It creates a lot of problem to him in future. As he is getting lot of scolding from the boss it creates a negative impression about your friend in yours boss mind.If your friend changes his attitude from now then it good for him.But if he not listen to your words then he is responsible for his downfall.so,As a suggest him the way he have to work tell him concentrate on the work.
    For example:
Most of the parents always says their children to read, why they will say like that? for getting better future.
the children will have books and all other comfort but if they wont read then there will loss their bright future.
so,try to inspire him, motivate him.then he will listen to you.
    all the best
    thank you

Re: One of my colleagues is not entirely focussed and thus gets so much scolding from the boss

Well according to me if any of the employee is not good at work then he will definitely get scolded by the boss because no boss want that any of his employee is not efficient to handle the tasks given by the boss.
If he is not focused then he might have some problems in his home or any other reasons are making him uncomfortable and finally the boss itself scolds him so if he gets the scoldings from everywhere then it will be the very bad thing for every employee so it should never happen again in his life , for that he needs to get into the meeting with the bioss so that whatever problem he is facing he will explain in front of the boss it is populrly known as open forum.
So he needs to be sended to the good direction otherwise these people can do anything with their life who are always been scolded by the boss so never take these people in a light way.
Boss is also advised to not say a cruel words to him because these things also matters in the life of an employee.
If you are good freind of that guy then you should also tell him the good things related to the job so that he should not commit any mistakes.

Well, you can talk to him and ask him about the problems he is facing due to which he is never focused on his work and always get scolding from the boss.If there is any professional or emotional problem which is making him not to focus on his job,try to help him or advice him.If there is no such problems and despite you tell him many times and he never listens then tell him that this attitude may not help him in long run and can cause delayed promotion ,bad impression on others and no growth in hike and the boss may also complain to higher authorities.GOOD LUCK!!!

Re: One of my colleagues is not entirely focussed and thus gets so much scolding from the boss

Sir here I would like to say that you need to take your friend back on the track otherwise future is not going good for him because company or organization, private or government both sections demands for work done by the employees should be best at its place and all employees are abide to follow the rules of the company that are given by the management and you are working in government organization that is why your colleague is taking advantage of that because he know that he has got a permanent job and there is no body who could fire him except scolding that is why he understand that he will not loose his job but he does not know that there is a particular law in that if any employees does something wrong and not walk according to the rules then he may be demoted or suspended from the job

You should talk to him personally that if there is any problem with him then share and we would solve that problem easily so may be that he share and if there is no problem with him then you should motivate him and guide that he has very good efficiency and if he want then he may be the best among all those employees who are working in the organization and make him feel that he can do something best for himself and others too so he will know his strength and may be that he care and also say that when boss scolded you then I did never like it that is why I think about you and respect you enough in this case so your friend will understand the situation and may be that he start caring about it

    All the best
