One of the female employees is over dressed for office and hence distracts the other employees

I work with a private organization as the Manager. One of the employees in my organization is always over dressed for work. This leads to the other female employees noticing her and getting jealous. The male employees also tend to get distracted. How should I communicate this to her?

    Dear sir

Every organization having its own dress code policy, according to that if any employee whether they are male/female wants to violate that policy ,better that should not entertain. In my opinion in first instance tell to her about the working culture and environment of the organization. And wait and watch the impact of the verbal discussion you had with her in this regard. If she still continues in the same way then she needs a personal counseling again.Better you can call her and discuss the matter in private otherwise she may be upset. If she looks in dress vulgar or objectionable to others then certainly it is a matter needs to be dealt with in a sensitive manner without hurting the sentiments of the concerned employee. Regards

    Dear Aspirant,

In fact a working woman or male should always be in a simple & normal dress.Particularly female employee should take much care for it.

It is nothing wrong to call her to your chamber in presence & convince her for using a simple dress. You should tell her the scene which is going on in the organisation due to not your proper dress. Also warn her that " if she does not listen to it" I will have no option except to report the matter to the owner/higher authority explaining the full situation. If it happens "you may loose your job for which you will be responsible."

Hope she will be convinced & use the simple official dress.

    Thanks & good luck.

Hi, Dress code and such issues not related to the direct performance of the employees are normally handled and taken care by the Human Resource department of the firm. Since you the manager, you must not talk to your employees regarding their dressing sense, but you should not either be a mute spectator to such issues. You can and should convey this message to the HR team and ask them to formulate rules and regulations covering dress code in your firm. There should be strict policies regarding dress code and employees should come dressed in proper formals or business casuals during office hours. In fact, the HR should make it very clear in writing that the employees are not allowed to wear anything and everything to office and the employees should follow these rules or pay fine to the HR for improper or Jazzy dressing. This happens in all good and reputed firms and it actually leaves a good and lasting impression on the clients as well. So, request the HR person to first talk about this issue in a general meeting and then ask the HR to talk to the lady concerned in person too, but they should not use any derogatory words, else it might hurt the lady's feelings. Thanks.
