    Not getting off during festivals

I am working in a software company. Last year it was very hectic throughout the year and one main problem that cropped up was that we were not being given off even during major festivals like Diwali, Holi, Gurpurab, Id etc. due to some or the other major project coming up. Now I am fearing that this will happen during this year too. How to deal with such a situation?

Jobs in software is quite hectic and you have to bear with it.You must be getting a good sum of salary on account of your hectic work. This is a common problem in the software companies that the holidays and leaves are not much.Instead in some of the holidays of India due to festivals, they remain open. This is because they are mostly foreign companies and follow the holiday list of the main headquarter of the company.

So,you have to bear with it and have to work on festivals. However, you can take personal leaves for attending festivals of your place or region even though the leave granted is not much in number.During major festivals, you along with other employees can request your boss to give an off and assure him that the work assigned will be done within the stipulated time. You can also ask for shifting your work place for few days to the branch of the company near the place where you will be going to celebrate the festivals.

    Hi aspirant

It is very wrong of your managemnt to withhold you even during the major holidays of the year. No one can work like a robot and thus everyone needs rest. And these are the days when you can remain away from work and spend some time with your family. So your company should be more responsible and thus should give you off atleast during the major holidays of the year even if the work schedule is very hectic.

I personally don't think so that the same thing will happen this year too. But if something like this happens again and you are again withheld during a major holiday , then all of the employees should show resentment againt this and then only your management will be able to realise its mistake. You should tell your manager that its not fair on their part to withheld the employees during the major holidays. You have already have agreed to it the last year but this year you will not be coming to the offfice on any holiday. You hope that they realise your plight.

I am sure your manager will undersatnd you thus solving your problem. Good luck
