    Non-cooperation from team members

    I work in a MNC. I had been chosen the team leader last year. While working with my team,it has come to my notice that there is lack of cooperation among the members of my team. What should I do to bring back the cooperation among the members of the team?

    Dear Aspirant,

    Congratulations for being chosen for team leader.Cooperation among team members are necessary for achieving the team work & target in time.In order to have a effective team,you should have periodical meeting of your team members to review their difficulties in doing their work & give the guidelines for solution.There should be some refreshment after your periodical meeting & have familiar talks also.Also some prizes should be announced for whole team & for the best member in order to achieve the target in time.

    According to the seniority,you can make a head of the team to bring cooperation among the members & for close vigilance of the activities of the members.

    You should also give some strict instruction to the members for not working well stating that bad remarks will be given to the members to those members who don't work well.This will creat fear among them & they will work seriously.

    Hi Friend.
    Usually, while working in a team You do encounter problems of non-cooperation among members. However, a good leader can easily bring his team to work efficiently and amicably. The first thing that you should do is to divide your team into small groups of members with same skills and make one among them the head of that group. Also, give each member an offer to be the head of that group based on their performance. This will not only provide an incentive to each team member to work better but will also help them to work itogether in a team and communicate with each other easily. This division into smaller groups should be on a rotational basis wherein members of different groups get to work with each other and understand each other even better. You can also conduct team activities where employees get a free hand to interact with each other and know their positive and negative points and give suggestions to each other to improve themselves. This should definitely help you achieve cooperation among your team .

    Cooperation is one of the key factor for the proper functioning of a team.As a team leader,it is your duty to see that there is cooperation and good team spirit within your team.If it is not absent,you must try to build it within your team.This is because without mutual understanding and cooperation among the team members,it is not possible for a team to reach its goal.

    -Sit for a meeting with all the team members.
    -Discuss various working issues and about the working of the employees.
    -Try to know the root cause of such lacking spirit of cooperation.
    -Try to solve all the personal grudges among team members if any.
    -Uplift the spirit of cooperation through your words and highlight its importance for the betterment of the team.
    -Start a new beginning with your team and request your team members to do so forgetting all the personal grudges for the sake of professionalism.

    Cooperation among team members is very essential for the success of your team and this will also reflect your success as a team leader. So you should see to it that your team members cooperate with each other and thus not let your and their team down in anyway. Your team should stand out from the rest of the teams and it is your responsibility as a team leader to see to that. As a team leader you should see to it that team spirit becomes an integral part of your team which is the most essential factor to take your team on its journey of success.

    Now to bring back the cooperation you should hold interactive sessions among your team memebers wheein they interact with each other and thus get to know each other better. In this way they can make friends with one another and thus this will definitely help them to cooperate with each other and hence maintain the team spirit. In this way you will surely notice a drastic change in the performance of your team and I am sure will be very happy with it.

    Also you can make an announcement that this time if the is successful in this project and gets appreciation from the management , then you will surely give each of the members a surprise present which they are sure to remember throughout their lives. This will be a token of appreciation from your side for all the hard work and effort they have put in this project. For this they will have to cooperate with each other and thus work as a team and not on individual basis. I am sure this will encourage them to forget all their personal differences and hence behave as a team.

    First of all I appreciate the fact that you as a leader have taken the initiative to bring the members of your team together. Working together as a team is the most important quality that the team members need to imbibe for its efficient working. For achieving targets in time and being a successful organization cooperation among the team members is the most important prerequisite.

    As far as improving the cooperation between the members is concerned then you will have to understand the psyche of employees and find out if there is something that has happened in the past that has led to such behaviour. If there is something of this sort then you should get into the details of it and solve it. This would definitely help to ease the tenison among the employees which is preventing them to work together as a team.

    If their is some hesistancy amongst the employees that you are observing then you should resort to conducting team activities. Team activities are group activities that help the employees to know each other better. They are a fun way of helping the members bond and know more about one another. There is a wide variety of team activities that have become a part of the work culture of the organizations these days.

    Team activities will definitely boost the morale of your members. You can also suggest the employees to initiate activities on their own. This will make them take an interest in the team.     hello sirYou are a team leader and this is your responsibility to maintain regularity in working consistently towards new growth.May be your Team members are not happy with your attitude so you should improve your skills too conbeynce the coworker those are taking a extra role in touching the targets.If you think that your team members are not cooperating then you should conduct a meeting for those members and explain all matters those are resistance in working or ask them why are they not working properly or cooperating?a positive result comes out definitely.because conversation is the best way to solve this type problem.thanks

    Dear..

    You are right, In order to get 100% performance from each member you need to have a team where every member is co operative an if it is happening in yoour team then you can be assure of getting the targets done on time as if one members feel some kinda trouble then senior can assist him and that is why it is easy to reach the targets as compare to the teams you are not good at co operation. If you want this kinda result in your team alos then its better you do something to get that cooperation back

    The things that you can do are :-

    1. Plan something like a dinner or something like that and invite every member of your team. This will help them to get closer to each other in leisure time some time in the busy schedule this kinda stuff does not happen in the office so its better to plan something like that.

    2. Make some rules related to leave etc so that it can not trouble and not become a jealousy point if two or more of your team member want leave at the same time.

    3 You can even start a little award of most cooperative person of the week and ensure that everybody gets the award for once. One more thing the award should be not in cash.

    Non cooperation among team members can be dangerous to get desired outcome from your team. Being a team leader my self i underastood this concept very soon and did a lot of reaserch work on it.Here are some tips that might help you:
    Try to unite your group in physically as well as mentally by organising small parties or gtg after work or on holidays. This really helps as unity in group will reflect in their work and support towards each other.
    As a team leader try to understand promblems of your subordinates and help them as much as you can with their problem (personal or professional) this will creat a sense of dependence and trust in ur subbordinate for you and thus will ultimately lead to put his best efforts as a channel to repay for your help.
    Finally get some good lessons on leadership skills and team managment this will give you added advantage to previous points mentioned and remeber good communication skills can almost solve any problem in this world so try n work on it

    Well this kind of behavior can be a result of number of things ::
    good wages , no threat of job , not willing to work etc , so steps against it should be taken .


    • You can start by giving a motivational speech telling that the work is not being upto the mark
    and do would like to see some good work done .


    • Proper training to work in the environment should be giving especially to the new members
    • Some positive and negative motivation should also be giving to the members


    • POSITIVE motivation : wage hike , project manager post etc
    • NEGATIVE motivation : penalty and harmful actions
    • You should opt to choose your team members so that you select the best members fit to
    be working under you .
    • Increase the interaction between the team members that would gel them together .
    • Go for a small team-outing .

    Build an environment where they work as a team and enjoy working together .
