Less bonus being given by the company

I am an employee in a software company. When I joined our company provided all the employees bonus every 2 months. But a few months later due to financial setback faced by our company, we weren’t given any bonus. But now after 1 year, our company has returned back to its previous financial state. We are now being given bonus but the bonus amount is much less than what they used to give us earlier. What to do in such a case?

    Hi friend

The bonus policy for the employees is made at the sole discretion of the company and thus the employees have no role in its creation or in its amendment as in your case. There are some companies which dont even care to provide bonus to its employees even if they are finacially well off. But many companies provide the bonus to its employees which depends upon their financial condition. They provide this bonus as an incentive to the employees so that they stay for a longer time in their company due to such facilities being provided to them. But some companies dont think on these lines.

So you should feel privileged that atleast you are among those lucky ones who are receiving the bonus from their companies and not take it for granted. As you told that earlier your company used to provide you more bonus but now after returning to its normal financial condition, after a period of financial instability, they are providing you with much les bonus. As I told you before that this is on the sole discretion of your management and you have no role to play in it.

But of course you can ask the reason for the same to your manager. I am sure your management would have some genuine reason for taking such a decision. Also request your manager to increase the amount to the previous amount if possible. I am sure your manager will atleast consider your request. Also take few other employees also with you to make more impact.

I hope your manager increases your bonus to its previous value thus satisfying all the employees. Good luck friend. I hope you have a bright future

Please rebember Bonus is only paid if the company earns profits
The company pays the divident to its shareholders from the profits and to the employees who were instrumental in making the company earn good profits are given Bonus.

Now in case of your company, where company first went into financial problems and later it again started earnings profits.
The company has every right to give less bonus.
Please note some part of the profits is kept as cash to spend on the future company growth and operations work and also for times when company really wants money.

So, maximum what you can do is talk to your boss and put your query as to why Bonus amount has been reduced

    Hi aspirant

Your company's bonus policy or another policy is always liable to change according to the amendments made in it by your board of directors. So in this regards, you as an employee does not have any say.But you can certainly talk to your management and request them to revert the bonus back to its normal value. All the employees can write a letter in this regard and get it signed by all. Then you can forward this letter to your management and ask them to have a look at your request and to please accept it if possible.

You must certainly take this step if you want to have any chance in getting your bonus back to normal. But then if your management does not agree, then you should not get disheartened as with time when their financial condition is further improved, they will hopefully revert your bonus back to normal . So try your best and thus you will not have any regrets later.

I hope you understand my point friend. These things keep on happening due to ups and downs faced by your company in their financial condition. Dont worry as everything is going to be alright. All the best and Thanks
