Is it legal to get percentage on medicines prescribed by a physician?

I am a doctor by profession. Many medical representatives visited to my clinic. They are requesting for prescribing those medicines which belong to their pharmacy company. They are offering 30% on sale of per product. Is it illegal or should I take the percentage like other physicians.

Most of the physicians in India is doing this. This is nothing but one type of bribery. Giving and receiving the bribe is a crime. Like that giving percentage of medical and taking percentage is a crime.

This type of practice is against professional ethics. It is prohibited by Indian medical council.

Doctor profession is a noble professional. But some doctors are spoiling this noble provision by taking some commissions from some medical representatives. They are misusing the need of the patients.

So according to me you should not take commissions from such representative since it is against law and professional ethics.

Be an example for other doctors.

    Dear Aspirant,

It is a common practice at present. It seems most of the doctors accept this type of commission. In fact giving & taking commission without any proof is a kind of bribe which should not be accepted because it is a crime.

You should prefer to prescribe the good quality medicine to the patients because it will be more effective to the patients instead of prescribing all sorts of the medicines with taking commission from the medical representative. This way you will have good practice by which you can earn both money & name fame.

If you go on prescribing all sorts of medicines, the patients may not get relief. There by you will not have craze among the patients. So avoid accepting commission from the medical representatives.

    Thanks.
