How do I present myself to the interviewer when he/she fires the question “Why did you leave your last position?”

I have recently attended two companies interview but failed to get the job and in both companies I had this same question “Why did you leave your last position?” when I got this question I started feeling nervous and I was not able to convey things properly because I was so confused what to tell then whether the truth or just to fake with some answer? Can you just tell me how to handle this question ? What should I say if they ask me this question? I want a proper answer so that I won’t make the mistake again.

Re: How do I present myself to the interviewer when he/she fires the question “Why did you leave your last position?”

Just explain the genuine reason why you left for the company for eg. “ My company was bought and the acquiring company let everyone go”, “ The company moved its offices to the some place and family commitment prevent me from relocating”, “The company ran out of money”, They recently hired a new CEO who brought in a new Management team”. These are some of the examples which are frequent for job termination, so you can open up these type of matters right in front of the interviewer cause he/she as a interviewer will surely understand your position in it.
There are some interviewers who will be expecting to label the job seekers with negative remarks about a previous boss or company as complainers. So be very careful when you answering the question, make sure your question will not create negativity in the interviewer mind and that's very important in how you convey the answer for this question. If you can do that then for sure you will impress the interviewer from the next question which he/she will ask you.

First of all, Don't Panic at all.
Be calm and give reasons which dont' affect your current interview. Try to negotiate the interviewer with answers like "I didn't like the timings", "Work Overload", "Less Salary" etc. Never say reasons that go against you.
Or you can say that "The Company was unable to see my talent and give me work accordingly"

Let me be very frank with you first of all, don't lie unless you got booted out of your last company, practice to lie with a straight face,if you can do that avoid getting detected.if you left the company for some other reason, tell the real reason, however be prepared for some threaded questions for your reason for leaving your last company.for example-if you say that "work culture their didnot suit me".be prepared for questions like "what makes you think that work culture here would suit you"?etc...

    Dear friend,

Its a tough question to answer during interviews but here are some of the tips for a better way to answer this question:

    1. For this you should not discuss about your past with the interviewer instead you need to be focused, direct, polite reply should be given.

    2. you should not discuss anything bad about the organization or your higher official in the old company during the interview, which creates a bad impression on you.

    3. Instead you can respond like this "I felt that there are limited opportunities for my growth or i couldn't feel like my skill would be increased in my old company."

    4. Be diplomatic with your answer.

    5. There are 3 ways by which your answer could be in a polite manner, you can use them , for example:

    A. Fried:

    1. My talents does not fit with the needs of the old company

    2. I was facing many personal problem which led me to discontinue my work there.

    3. I realized that i made some bad choices and things din't work out properly and i can have the opportunity to prove my skills to you.

    B. Left:

    1. I would prefer to work at my native place only.

    2. I'm looking for opportunity where my skills can increase.

    3. My spouse was transferred and i need to stay at a place where my spouse stays.

    C. Laid off:

    1. Laid off along with all the employees due to restructuring of the organization.

    2. Expenses and my cuttings are extremely high and i can't afford to stay there.

    3. Company hired New staff removing all the old staff.

Re: How do I present myself to the interviewer when he/she fires the question “Why did you leave your last position?”

This the common question asked in all the companies when you go for a new job by leaving the last job. Interviewer wants to know the proper reason of leaving the job, so that you may not leave there company as you leave the last one(without any reason). You can tell them truth if it is the reasonable one and if you finds it perfect and believable one. But now a days most of the companies did not find any proper reason in most of the answers, so they do not heir that person. In that case you can avoid that question by saying answers like, "Due to some personal or family problem", after this answer the interviewer does not ask you any further question regarding that, you can say due to relocation of company and new location is far from you living place and yo can't move there. There are many other answers for these type pf questions which you can answer to avoid this matter and don't forget to be confident while answering.

First of all do not get nervous if any question comes across to you just answer that question in a very calm and composed way. You can give any relevant reason to them which you think was an obstacle in your previous company because every company needs an explanation so that they can judge your ability that how longer you can stay in their company that's it nothing more. So just go with the relevant reason whatever you feel like because if you will get nervous then they will understand that you are giving them fake reason.

This question is asked to see a person's commitment to a comapny. You can answer by giving a genuine reason such as family issues, salary to expenditures problems etc. Don't give any negative comments about your last companies working environment. But you can give a reason that the previous company you were working didn't have the work that matches your interest and the job they are providing matches his work of interest, this will make a good reason for them as they will see you as a motivated worker with a high commitment for the company.

For this type of confusening question which could affect your first impression n...here is the answer you can give most confidetly...firstly you should maintain your level of confidence while answering this -- you can say "that you have recently shifted to a new house which is very far from the place of your previous working place and that you were willing to work in a office close to your home so that you can work hard and could be available if any urgent work requires you!!!! I hope I have answered you a correct answer you can give to the interviwee .... answering this way will not affect your first impression and the interviwee would be definately impressed by your answer!!!! thanku.

    Experience and Qualifications Interview Questions

    2. Are you the best person for this job? Why?

Answer: Here the answer is always yes. Definitely. Absolutely. Don’t begin your answer with “I think so.” Show confidence and back it up with a reason. “I do. I believe I have the skills and experience necessary to this position and I’m willing to work hard and learn everything I can to succeed within your company.”
    3. What can you do for this company?

Answer: Explain how your skill set relates to the needs of the company. If you’re interviewing to work in customer relations, explain how you are a people person and that personality makes helping customers not only effective but pleasant.
    4. What relevant experience do you have?

Answer: Be specific. What previous positions have you held that prepared you for this one?
    5. What was your biggest accomplishment?

Answer: This is an opportunity to brag about an accomplishment. Do this right and you’ll make a solid impression on your potential employer. Try to relate your experience to the position you are trying to get. If you’re interviewing for a sales position, describe a difficult but successful sale you made and how you did it.
    6. How will you compensate for your lack of experience in this field?

Answer: Everyone starts somewhere. You may not have the experience they’re looking for but you have other great qualities. Now is the time to speak up about them. For example: I may not have worked in this field for very long but I am smart and I’m willing to work hard and learn everything I can. I believe that I would be a real asset to your company.
    7. Do you feel that you are overqualified for this position?

Answer: you may actually have more experience than most people applying for this position. You may have already held a position that paid more than the salary this employer is looking for. They want to know that you’re not using them as a stepping stone. The best answer: Overqualified, no. But I’m certainly qualified. I believe the skills and experience I have will enable me to grow and advance in this company.

Just the real reason you left the company to explain, for example. He certainly will understand our position as an interviewer.
There are some interviewers to the job seekers as the last one or the complainers about the owner of the company will be expected to label with negative comments. The interviewer wants to know reasons to quit, because you leave the company as the last one (without any reason) can leave.

You can tell them the truth if it is reasonable and if you receive accurate and reliable. Most of the companies now days most of the answers did not find any good reason, then that person they do not inherit. .

Just you need to give the genuine reason and don't be shy.
Just say what you want to say don't put your answers in very low voice.
try to have some confident as only you are the best don't worry ok.

In an interview, one should not only wear clothes, beside this you also need to WEAR YOUR CONFIDENCE AND RIGHT ATTITUDE. Only a number of candidates, handle their nervousness and use it in a positive way. These questions are frequent acquaintances at interviews if you have been in a job earlier. Answering these sort of questions require you to give an honest answer. So mention the real cause. It may have less amount to offer you which was far less from your ability and expectations, the work environment was unfriendly,or you were asked to join some other branch of the same firm. Do not get in conflict with them, answer politely. Avoid forcing your reason.
But if some negative aspect of your work or behaviour has been the cause, then study the nature of the panel taking the interview, depending on it disclose the matter -truth or with modified answer. Best of luck for your future interviews.

    HI,

First i want to say that never panic while you are in an interview.
    Stay calm and cool.
Answer whatever you know with somewhat confodence.
If u dont know the answer tell them that you are not aware of the answer and you will surely look for the answer.
So be very careful when you answering the question, make sure your question will not create negativity in the interviewer mind and that's very important in how you convey the answer for this question.
Give certain excuses like "My talents does not fit with the needs of the old company","I didn't like the timings", "Work Overload", "Less Salary"," I'm looking for opportunity where my skills can increase"," My spouse was transferred and i need to stay at a place where my spouse stays" etc.

    Hope this will be helpful.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Re: How do I present myself to the interviewer when he/she fires the question “Why did you leave your last position?”

These kind of questiom is asked to know whether the problem arised at last job, may happens here the same.So your answers must not be anything which will effect your current job, in your answers there must be respect for the senior officials of the company. Try to provide the valid reasons in simple words, don't try to go deep, because if you start telling whole story, the interviewer will able to grab some weak points of yours. While answering don't be nervous or shy, speak it confidently. Thanx

    Hi,
If u dont know the answer tell them that you are not aware of the answer and you will surely look for the answer.
So be very careful when you answering the question, make sure your question will not create negativity in the interviewer mind Only a number of candidates, handle their nervousness and use it in a positive way. These questions are frequent acquaintances at interviews if you have been in a job earlier. Answering these sort of questions require you to give an honest answer

Re: How do I present myself to the interviewer when he/she fires the question “Why did you leave your last position?”

    Dear friend,
You must have to be very confident at the time of the interview, give a certain reason for leaving the previous company as the salary was too much less and the timing doesn't suits me or you could also mention that all the things were very good but there was the lack of the chances of growth over there. According to my work profile I have never get late to the office, I have never placed any special requirement before my seniors but after having all the best efforts I have not find any chance of growth, that is the reason I want to switch my job.

    Thanks.

When you are experienced and you go for interview in new company then this is the important and common questions that the interviewers will ask you. You must answer this question by showing a positive attitude. You provide them with the proper reason that why you leave your last job if it is in your favor. Do not question companies policies and load of work.Always try to show positive attitude toward work. And if there are such cases where you leave due to work load, companies policies etc., then I suggest you to say some other reason like family problem, personal problem, working environment, relocate etc. In this way you can leave a positive attitude on interviewer and your chances of selection becomes high

    Dear friend,
There is the need of confidence and will power but don't be over confident. The answer of the approriate question is very simple that I don't have seen any chance of growth in that industry according to the time given by me to that industry. I have worked hard since a long time but I have not got any increment as well as the other facilities provided by other companies, that is a very hard reason that is why I want to switch my job.

    Thanks.

Be calm and give reasons which dont' affect your current interview. Try to negotiate the interviewer with answers like "I didn't like the timings", "Work Overload", "Less Salary" etc. Never say reasons that go against you.
Or you can say that "The Company was unable to see my talent and give me work accordingly" You must have to be very confident at the time of the interview, give a certain reason for leaving the previous company as the salary was too much less and the timing doesn't suits me or you could also mention that all the things were very good but there was the lack of the chances of growth over there.I suggest you to say some other reason like family problem, personal problem, working environment, relocate etc. In this way you can leave a positive attitude on interviewer and your chances of selection becomes high

Be your self if anyone ask question to u. there is no need of giving fake ans.U dont need to fake any interviewer to get the job.tell the truth y u left. they see u r confident level wat actually u ill ans. present in a proper manner.look into theirs eyes and ans to the question with confident.AT the end ask for apologies if u have spoke rudely.
If u dont no the ans tell them u r not aware of the ans and u ill surely look for the ans with confident. There is the need of confidence and will power but don't be over confident.

Hi. I think you should not get nervous while answering such questions. You should simply state the true reason and not shy away from giving the true picture. Just tell them all the facts why you left your previous job and that will answer your question. Dont try to hide any facts because if they later do a background check on you, you can be in trouble and may even lose your job.

Have confidence in yourself and think what you will tell them before the interview.

    Best of luck. THanks

    Hi Friend,
Do not get nervous. Be confident and provide them the facts about leaving your last organisation. It could be "better career growth" or location constraints etc.
If you are honest and brings positive message on your work ethics and dedication and show your positive attitude then company will hire you for sure.
Self confidence is quite important in interview. Please prepare well for your next interview. Hope you will do all right this time.

    All the best.

Re: How do I present myself to the interviewer when he/she fires the question “Why did you leave your last position?”

    Hi,

First of all whenever you are facing any interview be confident, because that is the first thing by which you can impressed an interviewer. When you answer any question to an interviewer, be careful and make sure that your answer for the question will not create negativity in the interviewer mind.

So if you an art of conveying the answer in a very impressive way either it’s true or false, then it will create a good impact on an interviewer.

For your question, I would like to say you only one thing that explain the genuine reason that why are you thinking to leave the company.

You can say them that “company is moving to some other place and because of family I can not relocate”, so looking forward for changing the job. Also you can say that “I do not have project since last 5 or 6 months, and I don’t want to be sit an idle and also don’t want to relocate”, so looking for change.

You have not mentioned why you exactly left your last company but I would suggest you to tell them valid reason by which they can understand the issue and problem faced by you. Do not say anything wrong about the company and their work culture and also don't disclose task which you used to perform there in details but you can just tell them that you want to relocate here as you love this place and also give them some good things about their company where you are going to join. You need to search position and growth of the new company and some good points about the company for which you are going to give interview before your interview visit.

Re: How do I present myself to the interviewer when he/she fires the question “Why did you leave your last position?”

    Hi friend

This happens to many candidates who appear for the interviews that they get nervous while answering a question and completely become blank and are thus unable to clear the interview..As it has already happened with you twice so you should certainly make it sure that it doesnt happen next time..

Firstly you should not be disheartened with what has happened with you in the past and only think about the present and future because that is what really matters as we cant change the past..So i think the only way you answer this certain question "Why did you leave your last position ?" properly and without hesitation the next time is if you prepare it well before attending the next interview..

So the next time the interviewer asks you this same question you should answer him with confidence and tell him what exactly your problem was due to which you left your last job like bad work environment, no professional growth, the boss was arrogant and uncaring, no promotion for a long time etc..So just tell what exactly happened with you due to which you had to leave your last job and i dont think there will be any problem..

Hope you understand..Good luck for your future..Thanks
