    How do I handle irate patient relations on the front desk?

    I have started a new job as a receptionist in a new hospital and therefore still not in my element. I am having trouble in handling irate patient relations that always demand immediate attention and answers?

    Hello,

    Firstly,you have to make sure that you dont lose your temper in front of them.There will be patients and their family members who will have innumerable questions asking you every time,you have to handle them.Before that you need to have a good idea about hospital's own rules and regulations and also be aware of the doctors' instructions.YOU have to know exactly what to do when,that is for example when to allow someone to meet the doctor,or to ask the patient and its family memebers to wait when the doctor is not available etc.Some people create confusion at the desk and start shouting.You have to make sure such chaotic situations are not created.In case the doctor is late,you should call him up and know within what time he will be reaching there,and inform the patient party to keep their patience and wait.

    Hi friend

    I can understand that you have a genuine problem there and definitely can understand how you are feeling at this time. I can understand that the patient relations will never be able to understand you rplight and that you are new to this job. They will treat you like any other receptionist who has a lot of experience and should know everything by the back of her hand. Now its upto you to deal with this situation in the most effective manner and thus come out as a winner .

    Now you should be patient and don't take anything that the patient's relatives say to you seriously. Ignore their comments and try and concentrate only on your work. In this way you will be able to focus more on your work and thus will be able to manage the situations more effectively. Try to help them as much as possible and keep a thorough knowledge of your subject matter.

    Try to have as much knowledge about the whereabouts of the hospital and try to adapt to your work as fast as possible. Then you will notice the change in your performance and will surely be able to live upto the expectations of the relatives . Then I am sure they will not show any dissatisfaction and thus will be very happy with your work. Work hard and with full dedication. Give your 100% work to your work and then I am sure you will be able to deal with any situation.

    Of course friend , you will become perfect with experience and time will teach you a lot but for the time being you should just concentrate on your work and don't pay any heed to the relatives comments about you because if you will listen to their comments and keep on think about it all the time, then you will become very inefficient and your work will suffe =r badly. I hope you understand my point.

    Hi...............,

    You have chosen such job where you have to create relation with customers.
    No matter what type of customer he is you have to perform it well.
    So if having problem you can report to HR department .
    He may shift you to comfort place if possible.
    But it depends on him what he can do.

    Dear questioner as you have been appointed by the authority to deal with the irate patient relation jobs on the front desk then surely you have the quality to handle such situation.As you are a new employee so you feel trouble to handle such situation.

    1.First of all you are to think I am the person appointed to deal with such trouble some job.

    2.The authority must assist you in all respect to deal with the irate patient.

    3.Always think positively, you should think before your joining here somebody was recruited their to do job.

    4.So, nothing is impossible if you do not do this job then another person will occupy job.

    5.If there is any self medical ground then you should quit this post.

    6.Again within the office if you the person appointed as receptionist which has the utmost responsibility to do the job then surely your remuneration is also better and lucrative then others.

    7.Now, the question if you do not like to do this job then as per office rules you are to serve notice or you are to go under medical leave to refrain such duties.

    So, whenever we go to do job first we are to think through imagination that the service will be suitable and adjustable ,accordingly you are to join.

    Hello ,
    Working as a receptionist is always a task were you are kept at your toes all the time .
    Moreover , as it is of a hospital , you need to understand that angry patients need to be handled carefully .
    • Never loose your cool and dont get frustrated about it.

    • Be calm and show empathy towards them . A very good advantage would be if you develope nursing communication skills as it is realy comforting for the patient.

    • Make the patient understand that " anger " , "shouting" and other activities is doing him no good and he is just worsing his/her condition .

    • Always listen to all the patients otherwise it creates needless ciaos .
