How to calculate DA (Dearness Allowance)?

I have joined a new job and for Induction program I have to go Head Office Hyderabad. Company has provided me Rs. 11,000 as an advance for 5 days induction program. I have a doubt related to the DA. Suppose I could not spend the whole amount and return it to the company should I deduct my DA from that? And how can I calculate it?

First you are to know how D.A.is paid to employee. You see your previous record.Ask your senior colleague. 2nd if it is paid as fixed amount no problem add same to every one's salary. If it is % wise pay after every employees' basic salary you get.Next if it is slab wise convert into % then calculate as per basic pay.

Re: How to calculate DA (Dearness Allowance)?

    hi friend,

da is the daily allowance that is provided by the company.

As you have said that the company has provided you an amount of rs 11,000/- for an induction program at hyderabad for 5 days.

If you return the remaining amount from the amount that is given to you the daily allowance will be deducted from salary.

Because you have spent the daily allowance for 5 days.

Total amount that is given to you (minus)- the spend amount for 4 days divided by 5 days would give the amount that is left in your daily allowance.

So that amount would be credited in to your account i think
    .

    Thanking you.

    Dear...

DA is dearness allowance and here you are talking about daily allowance. As you say you got 11000 then you should understand that this is not your dearness allowance. Company has calculated roughly the amount that you must be needing while your stay in Hyderabad and based on that company has given you the advance. You do not have to submit it to the company if you have not spent it. Keep it with you.

Dearness allowance is known as MEHENGAI BHATTA. It is given to all employee after few months or after specific period of time. It is a allowance given against the raising inflation in the country. It is given as per the city as in Metro cities the dearness allowance is more then that of the small towns.

    Hope it will help you

    Cheers...!!!

Re: How to calculate DA (Dearness Allowance)?

D.A (Dearness allowance) is the percentage of salary received by employee for his or her performinag in the organization or company.
It is caluclated on the base of basic salary or pension of employee.
It is received twice in the year in the month of january & july.
Dearness allowance vary at each 6 month cycle. After implementation of report , government announced dearness allowance based on CPI-IW (Consumer Price Index - Industrial work)

    Calculation of Dearness Allowance

    Formula = [ {avg. AICPI for last 12 month - 115.76} *100 ] / 115.76

    For 01/01/2007 D.A calculation

    avg.AICPI in the year 2007 is = 118.95

    D.A on 01/01/2007 = [{ 118.95 - 115.76}*100] / 115.76 = 2%

Similalary , the D.A in the year

    01/07/2007 = 6%
    01/01/2008 = 9%
    01/07/2008 = 12%
    01/01/2009 = 16%
    01/07/2009 = 22%
    01/01/2010 = 27%

    Dear Aspirant,

Your question is related to daily allowances & not with the Dearness allowances. The dearness allowances is calculated @ % of the basic pay & grade pay of the emploees. For example,If a employee in central govt. whose basic is Rs 10,000/& grade pay is Rs4200/ then at present the dearness allowances @72% is paid on Rs10,000/+4200/ per month to the employee.

Where as daily allowances is paid to an employee according to place of staying on tour. This allowances is paid along with the expenses of fares for traveling for office purposes. This is called traveling allowances.

So your advance amount will be adjusted against the fare amount,Hotel charges & boarding charges as per your eligibility & provision for Hyderabad. If the amount is found excess to your Travelling allowances, the excess amount will have to be deposited in the office.

    Thanks & enjoy.

Re: How to calculate DA (Dearness Allowance)?

    Hi ,
You must understand the basic concept of dearness allowance. It is a payment towards the rise in cost of living, which is calculated based on cost of living index.
There is a difference of government and public sector undertaking paying DA and private or limited company paying Da.
DA(DEARNESS ALLOWANCE ) is the allowance paid to employees due to rise in Market price .

Generally DA is calculated as rise in consumer price index .And DA is connected with basic generally it is the %of basic pay.
SUPPOSE WE TAKE A BASE CPI AS 2460
CURRENT CPI IS 3460THEN RISE =1000
    THEN RISE 1000/2460*100 = 40.65%
Then DA will be 40.65% of Basic.

    Hello Friend,

Well, for your kind information it is to be noted that Basic Pay is fixed based on your category and the type of industry you are in. The term DA or Dearness Allowance is a special allowance given to the employees to adjsut the rise in price. Generally DA is calculated on the basic of Basic Pay.Dearness Allowance is granted to compensate the price hike above 536 points (Base Year 2001=100) 115.76 Points .

Dearness Allowance = (Avg of CPI for the past 12 months – 115.76)*100/115.76

Here, CPI stands for Consumer Price Index.
