For the effectiveness in performance, can we avoid disclosure of appraisals?

Appraisals in one way can create a sense of motivation but it can too create a sense of unhealthy environment which results to jealousy and infectivity. Can the appraisals not be disclosed in front of anybody to avoid such conditions?

Re: For the effectiveness in performance, can we avoid disclosure of appraisals?

You might be right in your thinking but besides motivation other reason for giving appraisals is to increase the competition between the employees as seeing their colleagues getting appraisals other also think to get that and thus work much harder to get it. Which might cause unhealthy environment in the office sometime. But if you think that this might work there is no harm in experimenting such things.
But the drawback of this thing could be less transparency which can create an environment of disbelief among the employees towards management as this might send a message among employees that the management is doing partiality and thus donot want to disclose their decisions in front of employees which might increase the unhealthy environment instead of decreasing it.
