Drunk drivers for dropping night shift sub editors

We are a team of sub editors who work in a newspaper. We have been allotted with dropping service. After the last edition, we have drunk drivers dropping us home. It is very scary for the female staff. We had a word with the HR department

    Hello,

You need to urgently clarify about this to your senior officials. The dropping service at night has been provided for safety purpose and not for taking risk of travelling in a car which is driven by drunk drivers. If drivers drink and drive firstly there remains a big risk of car accident, secondly in drunken state that person may ill behave or pass bad comments to the female staffs. That wont be a favourable situation! So complain about those drivers and ask the HR dept.to make necessary changes with proper action against them.

    Hey!
This is a very scary situation as it is not only dangerous but also a threat to your personal security. Being a woman, you have the right to complain to the Human Resource Department if you feel that there is a threat to your safety. You should directly tell them that you feel very uncomfortable with drunk drivers dropping you back home. You should tell them that they should employee people with a habit of not drinking while driving. Also the drivers on duty should be given strict instructions that if any of them drinks and drives then they would be terminated from their services.

A ceratin sense of discipline should be prevalent amongst the employees and this can happen only if the management is strict with them. The management should also stress on the fact that drinking and driving is a crime punishable by law. Incase the condition of the drivers do not improve then you should make it clear to the management that you will not stay for the last edition late night if the drivers are not instructed to not drink and drive.

You can else resort to another step and that is returning back home in your own car. The female staff can pool in and take one car to the office and also come back in the same car. These days cars like Nano are also available at very low prices. This would avoid the hassle of bearing with drunk drivers and at the same time will be a safe option. You can ask the Human Resource Department to give you a travel allowance since you are coming in your own vehicle. I hope some solution is worked out for you. All the best!

    hello guest !!

    we do understand your problem.

so first of all you talk to the driver before going to any senior authority.
if the driver feels guilty than he will not do it from next time.
and if he does such activity, than surely report to the senior authority and ask them for female safety.
your senior authority will surely take an action against it.

because now a days female safety has become a great issue in india.

    Hello Aspirant,

In fact this practice is against the provision of law. No one should drink during duty hours and that too for a driver who is carrying many people during night hours. All of you should join together and draft a joint presentation to the chief editor demanding the change of driver otherwise give ultimatum to pen-down your work because the situation you are being dropped in night hours is very risky and anytime you may face serious problem.

Hope you will havee change of driver and will be dropped at home safely.

    Thanks.

    Ashok.

    Hi aspirant

Not only for female employees, but drunken drivers are even not safe for the male employees of the company as they can cause accidents under the harmful effects of alcohol thus causing danger to your life . So you should certainly complain against such drunken drivers to your management or your HR. As you have already talked to your HR dept its a good decision on your part as they should certainly know about such important mishappenings in your company.

They should take some necessary actions as soon as possible not only for the safety of the female employees but also to prevent any mishap or accident from happening . You should tell them firmly as this is a very serious situation and will also reduce the reputation of their company. They should discuss it among themselves and take the right decision soon. THey should either tell the drivers to mend their ways or to fire them if they dont want to improve their habits.

I am sure your management will be able to solve this problem and thus bring about a change in this grave situation for the betterment and safety of the employees. Good luck
