Is counteracting otherís viewpoints a part of group discussions?

I am going to appear for various on campus placements after 1 month. The one thing that I am really very nervous and confused about is the group discussion stage. I am really confused that during GD we are just required to put our viewpoint forward on that particular topic or counteract otherís viewpoint also, like in a debate. Please guide me in the right direction.

In GD you have to put your view about the topic given to you.

So it is not necessary that you have to counteract others view point.

You need to counteract only when you think that the other persons view doesn't matches with your views.

You can also speak in support of the other persons view if it matches with you.

The main criteria is that when you speak you have a strong reason behind it like you can give examples related to your reasons.

This shows your knowledge about the topic and also your thinking and reasoning abilities.
