Company refuses to approve 3 months maternity leave

I am a clinical research analyst and expecting my first baby. My reporting boss initially promised maternity leave from company as per my convenience but now, he is backing off. I need 3 months maternity leave as it would be difficult to commute and take stress. Please suggest a solution.

    Hi aspirant

You can definitely take 3 month maternity leave and you don't have to beg your company for that. As per the rules of the Maternity Benefits Act, you are eligible to take 6 months of continuous leave, 3 months before and 3 months after your expected date of delivery; provided you have completed 180 days in your company. every pregnant female is eligible under this Act. So your company has no right to stop you from availing your maternity leave at the right time. You should raise your voice against such injustice.

Go and talk to your boss. Tell him that under the Maternity Act you are eligible to take 6 months o continuous maternity leave. So you hope that they sanction your leave otherwise you will be forced to take this matter to the higher authorities or even complaint against them which won't be good for the company's reputation. You hope that he will look into this matter and thus do full justice to you.

I am sure your boss will feel ashamed of his actions and will definitely sanction your maternity leave soon. good luck and Thanks

    hi,
you are right you need a maternity leave otherwise it will effect your health. talk your boss once again and show him the medical of the bed rest. if still he doesnt allow you the leaves. so you can just take them without any concern. as at this stage you only need to take care of yourself and your baby.
he should understand the importance, tell him that under the maternity act you have all the right to take the leaves. so you can sanction your leaves.
    thanks
