    Colleague shows off her branded watch, bags and shoes during the lunch break creating an air of dissatisfaction amongst the employees

    I work with a private organization. During the lunch break all my team members sit together for lunch. One of the female colleagues shows of her branded watches, shoes and bags. This has led to an increase in dissatisfaction amongst the employees. Please suggest how can I curb this atmosphere at the workplace.

    There are different people in our society. Some like to show off their the products they use in order to make a style statement and other like to maintain a care free style. You have to adjust according to different situation. If your female colleague love to show her brand stuff then you should either praise her or remian silent in that situation. You should not demoralize her at any way. Adjustment is not at all easy but you have to do it in a professional manner. Coeprorate world is not a easy place to work and you have to learn it in a hard way.

    In a situation like this you should learn to ignore it otherwise you will not be able to work in a effective manner at work. You have to switch on and switch off your mind.

    Hi Dear,

    This is the trend of the market today. instead of getting influenced with such petty and unimportant things, we should focus on our work. I understand that you are annoyed with the female employee who is in the habit of flaunting her material belongings but instead of trying to stop her foolish behaviour, you must try to make your team members so ambitious and intellectual that they give least importance to the showy lady and her materialistic attitude.

    Whenever the lady shows off her expensive belongings, just ignore her and let your actions speak that the work place is not the right place to talk about material goods but it is a place to exhibit your knowledge and skills. Change her topic of materialism to knowledge based discussions and let her feel that she needs to be more polished in her skills as they can only help her gain confidence and popularity and not those material items.

    Once you start avoiding her frivolous talk, you will notice a sea-change in her attitude.
