Boss not allowing me to take extra hours after work

I really enjoy working at an international software firm as a tester. I usually put in long hours of work before leaving my office. I am a single and I don't really have much to do at home after work. So I just stay in office and try to keep myself busy. Of late my boss has forbidden me to put in the extra time because he says it may decrease my efficiency. What should I do?

Hi Dear, It's really good to hear that you have a passion for your work and you love and enjoy your job. Henceforth, time is just a number for you when related to your work. However, when you are associated with any firm, you have to abide by the rules of the organisation and moreover, you have to obey your senior members like your team leader, manager or you immediate boss. In fact, do not take your boss's suggestion otherwise because he is right in saying that may be initially you want to spend more time in office but if you continue doing so, you might get exhausted and start losing your interest in work. He is a well wisher of your and want you to store your energy for future. During this free time you can take up some of your hobbies or try learning something new so that you do not get bored and your skills are also enhanced simultaneously. Thanks.

    Hello,

Well, it is very difficult to find a true professional like you. You love your job and have a flair in testing.but in this case you have to listen to your Boss. Every company be it big or small has some rules on duty hours and you have to follow that. Software testing is a hectic work so you need rest as well so that you can come to your office fresh. If you have plenty of time in your hand then start reading good books or watch some movies etc.

    Bye,

    Dear Aspirant,

It is extreamely good that you have a very much passion for doing the software job.But on the other hand,it is also that you are free now so you are very much interested in doing job for more than working hours.Boss is correct in his decision.Every thing done in the right proportion is good for all.Doing any thing more than sufficient can be hazardous.Today, you are single so you are enjoying doing job for more than working hours.

When you will get other type of family work or any thing else, you might loss interest in this. But then also if you are very much interested in doing job for more than working hours, you can file a written application to the higher authority or to the HR regarding this.

    Thanks and Good Luck

Right your boss is absolutely right that you will loose your efficiency of working that if you will be continuously working for long hours despite getting free from all work given in the day and you should also understand this situation because you are young, energetic, enthusiastic, hardworking, dedicated person in the company and believe in the work that is why you do more as much as you can and I would say that this habit is very good for you but you just need to think about your future because after 10 years you will loose your energy completely if you do the same right now and you will find yourself unable to work even 7-8 hours everyday in any company then you will think that you should find a government job and that time will be over for you so you should save yourself for future so you could be continue at your efficiency and get more achievements in your life

    All the best
