    Boss altered review comments about me

    In the recent promotion meeting with the boss he told me that the comments given by some of my co-workers and other managers are not very positive and therefore he cannot give me the desired raise and promotion. I was very surprised by his statement so I asked my coworkers about the comments and they told me they were all positive and even revealed me the sent emails. This means that my boss altered the comments. Is it legal for him to do that and should I confront him or complaint?

    Your boss should not have done such a thing and should not have altered your comments in such a way. He has no right to behave in such kind of manner with his employees and should definitely not misuse his power in this manner. Your boss should understand that its his responsibility to help his employees and to take unnecessary advantage of them in this manner. You should definitely raise your voice in this matter and should not let your boss do such injustice with you. If you deserved the promotion and raise then you should get it and your boss has no right to take it away from you.

    You should first talk to your boss regarding this . Tell him that he said that the comments given by your co-workers and other managers are not very positive but when you cross checked it with your colleagues, they had a different story to tell and told you that they had given positive comments about you and even showed you the sent emails. It is not right on your boss's part to do such injustice with you and he should give you your promotion and raise as you deserve it. Otherwise you will be forced to take this matter to higher authorities.

    Dear when your boss is saying that your co-workers commented something negative about you then almost he is telling the truth to you because boss would never tell you a lie because you work in the office of your boss but dear if he said to you that you are not eligible to get promotion and hikes then you should make it confirm first that what your co-workers told to your boss about your working performance and if somebody tells you lie about this report then you should ask him/her peacefully that why did he/she has done only with you and that person must go to the boss and tell them about that what is actual and what is fake about you and if you make it sure that your all co-workers mentioned everything positive and in a right manner then you must go to the boss and ask them that - On which condition i am not suitable and what wrong i have done in the office so that you are making me ineligible to get promotion and raise in my position and and you should bring all the co-workers and request them to tell the boss what is accurate then your boss would understand about you

    Dear Aspirant,

    In fact it is not legal.In professional life,report is made on the basis of some facts & figures.In your case,when your boss was needed to get report from your co-workers/co-employees & when they gave positive report,your boss should not change it as per his own convenient.In this case,you may request him to correct the report in your favour.If he is not willing to do so,meet his superior officer with proof of your positive report of your co-employees & others.He may do you needful.

    If he too is not interested,then you should go legally.Before that you must have all proofs in papers that your boss has purposely changed the report in negative in order to postpond my promotion.

    So see your position & move ahead.

    This seems to be a comlpicated situation. You can confront your boss only if you are very sure about your co-workers comments and have desirable proof that they gave all positive comments about you. Else, it will amount to taking up an argument with your boss which definitely will make him angry and with bosses you never really know when an adverse thing may happen.
    Also, I think, you should trust your co-workers only if you know that they are not jealous of you and your promotion because they might not be playing a fool with you out of jealousy.
    Hence, i think you should first asure yourself about your colleagues' comments about your work and behaviour and then decide whether to confront your boss or complain against your boss to the higher authorities.

    Might be possible that your partners are cheating you.
    So here you can not raise the issue of legality.
    Also might be possible that boss do not want to provide you promotion right now.
    So do one thing write a letter to boss.
    There mention that employees has a positive view towards you.

    Yeah its in the hand of the manager and he can alter your credits and comments in the final appraisal.but he dont do it intentionally as a manager he needs a appraisal cycle where some will get good appraisal mostly average and few lower appraisal.so he must have done this with you to maintain that cycle and taking the name of others is just an excuse neither he will disclose the name of the employee who gave bad comment against you nor you can know.so better leave it to search for that member.what you can do is , reject your appraisal and then there will be a second time review by other higher managements where they will ask you for proofs of different work you have done over years and contributed towards process development and team.so be prepared for that and if you could impress them then you can get good appraisal.

    I can understand that you are almost bubbling in anger,as your boss did something really wrong.But at this stage,I wont suggest you to challenge him,as such an action may put you in trouble.You cannot let your boss know that you have probed into the matter,and are aware of the actual fact.If you bring any action then it may turn worse as he may bring a question about your audacity! Leave it,focus on your work.You will surely be paid for your hard work.
