Being asked to leave the company or work for 1 month before availing my maternity leave

I am working in a MNC. I am 6 months pregnant and want to avail my maternity leave as advised by my doctor. But as I am in a very important project, my boss has told me strictly that I would have to work atleast for 1 month more on this project or I can leave the company. Now I donít think this is fair. How to deal with such a situation?

    Hi aspirant

Your boss has certainly no right to withhold your maternity leave in this manner. He should better sanction your maternity leave otherwise you can even sue your company for not giving you your rights. You should not be sitting quietly and not withstand such injustice from your boss. Go and talk to him and get everything cleared. You should not hesitate to talk to him as this is your right.

Tell him that you are not feeling well at this time and have to follow the orders of your doctor. You can't possibly work for 1 more month and that you want him to sanction your maternity leave right now as this is your right according to the Maternity Benefit's act. You hope that he will consider your request and thus will sanction your maternity leave otherwise you will be forced to report to the higher authorities or even take a legal route.

I am sure that your boss will comply with your wishes. Good luck
