Is B.Tech with 4 years Industrial experience eligible for teaching in Engineering college?

    Dear All,

Iam new to this site (i dont know if similar type of question is already adressed)and really hope some one is going to guide me.

I have completed mechanical engineering and have 4 years experience working in a MNC, in supply chain (Sourcing Dept.: manufacturing and developement side).

Iam interested in teaching career from the start and initiated M.S in Bits pilani (WILPD-distance learning) in manufacturing management so that i can have a masters degree when i start teaching.
But, I couldnt attend the exams in 1st semester itself due to maternity leave and now have to start again from 1st sem (pay the entire semester fees again).

My question is - Is Masters degree really mandatory if i have industrial experience (will be 5 yrs by the time i start). Will there be any issues in future if i start teaching now with just a Btech degree.

    Thanks,
    Smruthi P

Re: Is B.Tech with 4 years Industrial experience eligible for teaching in Engineering college?

Earlier for teaching in an engineering college the minimum qualification was B.Tech. But from may 2012 onward the

UGC has made a rule that only M.Tech holder has a right to teach in a engineering college. Even though colleges are not following

the rule or notification. But from august 2012 onward the UGC has made the rule very strict. So with out a master you cannot

teach in an engineering college. Teaching experience is an added advantage. But according to me industrial experience will not

help you much for the same.

    Dear Smruthi P,

There are norms set for the recruitment of faculty in every college. As per those norms if they want the Masters degree then you cannot compromise it with the industry experience. Atmost what they can consider is that you agree to them that you will complete your masters in this stipulated time. The engineering college are a little flexible in case you have excellent academic background and you perform well in the interview.

    Thanks

    Dear Friend

it is god to hear that you want to go into the teaching field ..

YES it is true that you need a Post graduate degree to teach in a engineering college..earlier it was necessary but now from this year UGC has made it compulsory to have Master degree if anyone wants to teach in a engineering college affiliated to UGC..

SO you must complete your MS before starting your teaching career..

Some colleges may allow to teaching but you have to complete your MS in the period of teaching

    Hello Smruthi p,

As per University Grant Commission you are not eligible for to teach as a Faculty in Engineering colleges.M-Tech is

compulsory to work as a Asst Prof in any Engineering colleges. But you have chances at some colleges which are

not following the University Grant Commission rules at that colleges you try,but as soon as possible complete your Master

    of Technology in Mechanical
from any recognised University for to don't face any problems in future. And your 4 years

    Industrial Experience
does not helps you in this teaching field.

As Per University Grant Commission scale of pay as per my knowledge who have experience ranging from 0--3 years are

    listed below

    1) M-Tech Fresher ----------------------- 15,000/- per month.

    2) M-Tech with one year Experience--------- 18,000/- per month.

    3) M-Tech With 2-4 years of Experience------ 20,000/- ------30,000/- per month.

    4) M-Tech with Phd ------------------------ 35,000/- -------1,00,000/- per month.

There are certain norms and policies in each and every college according to which the faculty is selected. It completely depends on the demand of college or type of teacher they are looking for. If they need M.tech holders, then you must need m.tech degree else if they does not demand same, the you can continue with B.tech degree only. I recommend you to please search the colleges according to which one you are interested in teaching as per your convenience and qualification. I would also like to inform you that your MNC experience will not help you much as the teaching line is different one from your current profile.

Re: Is B.Tech with 4 years Industrial experience eligible for teaching in Engineering college?

    Hello friend,

It's good that you want to go in teaching line but only B.Tech degree along with 4 years work experience won't help

you in getting profession of a teacher in an Engineering college.

The selection procedure and eligibility for becoming a teacher in all the Engineering colleges is different. But almost all

the colleges require M.Tech degree or P.hd degree for teaching job.

So,it would be better if you continue your distance learning course and then apply for the job of teacher in an

Engineering College. However,if you want, you can apply for the post of a teacher in a School.

    Best of luck.

    Thanks.

    Dear..

You cannot expect Industrial experience to fulfill the demand of teaching experience. Both are experience but are of different nature so you can not teach in any of Engineering college without having a valid M.Tech degree. Earlier it was permissible to the candidates to teach in the college with a mere B.tech degree but now a days UGC became very strict and is not allowing the candidate to teach in the Engineering college.

However there are few new colleges who are still not following the rule and appointing B.tech teachers also but you have to expect the offer with a less salary. It now depends upon your luck whether you get these kinda college or not.

If you find any such college then apart from joining enroll yourself for M. Tech also and then after you will be eligible once you done with your course.

    Hope for the best.

    Cheers...!!!
